How might we help your nonprofit or foundation today?
-
The investment policy is the document governing how your organizational assets are to be managed. Without one, you have no way of reasonably setting expectations for the investment professionals you work with. As well, your board has no way of evaluating the performance of your investment partners. If you don’t have one, we can help you kick-start the process. -
Unfortunately, many nonprofits and foundations mistakenly believe that once they establish an investment policy there is no need to revisit it. We recommend the policy is reviewed annually at a formal meeting, even if no changes are required. An outdated investment policy may be exposing the investment portfolio to too much – or not enough – risk to accomplish the organisations strategic objectives. -
It’s impossible to know without understanding your overall goals and objectives. Just because an investment manager isn’t making radical, ongoing adjustments doesn’t mean the investments are inappropriate. This is where an Investment Policy Statement can help. However, to provide the best opportunity for long-term success, a wide variety of assets should be considered, including going beyond simple stocks and bond investing. -
Your board is highly-skilled at what they do. For many, their area of expertise is not in evaluating investment professionals or the merits of individual investment strategies. We pride ourselves in speaking and writing in plain language to help people truly appreciate and understand what is transpiring in the financial markets. Additionally, for our nonprofit and foundation clients we happily assist them by offering training and education sessions to members. -
We work with purpose-driven organisations to align their investment portfolios to their organisational goals. This is much more than socially-responsible investing: it's a way to help invest in those causes that are important to the client's mission.
Illuminating Perspectives is our bi-monthly newsletter dedicated to informing and inspiring the nonprofit and charitable sector. In each edition we share articles of interest, highlight best practices from others in the space, and provide links to articles and ideas worth reading.
